CONGRATS TO OUR FIRST
Dr. Sheldon Maurice Scholarship recipient Rakiyah
Applicants were asked to write a 750 word essay describing the importance of taking care of their mental health and what they would like to do in their community to spread mental health awareness. Rakiyah’s essay was exceptional!

“Thank you again for selecting me to receive the 2022 Dr. Sheldon Maurice Scholarship Award.
This Fall I will be attending Southern A&M University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I am majoring in Biology and Chemistry as a Pre-Med student. My ultimate goal is to become an Orthopedic Surgeon serving underrepresented communities.
I will be making self-care my top priority while I am in college and this includes prayer, meditation, exercise and surrounding myself with people who are positive and make me laugh. I will also be establishing the first MPN HBCU Chapter on Southern’s campus. I desire for other students to have access to Minority Therapists and all of the resources that MPN provides. This is my way of not only thanking MPN for being a lifesaver to me and so many others but to demonstrate the power of putting our mental well-being first. Thank you again MPN for this honorable scholarship award.”
